Event Summary

Explore the fundamental aspects of midstream operations in the natural gas industry with “Basics of Midstream.” This course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the key processes and components involved in transporting and storing natural gas. From infrastructure to regulatory considerations, participants will gain insights into midstream’s critical role in the overall energy supply chain.

Attendees will receive 1 Professional Development Hour (PDH) upon completion.

• Explain the role midstream plays in the natural gas value chain.
• Describe the three business characteristics of the midstream segment.
• To contrast three midstream corporate structures of midstream companies.
• To summarize the four major operating components of midstream.

This course is for entry-level technical and non-technical natural gas professionals or professionals from the distribution, marketing, or service sector who are interested in learning more about the midstream business.

Meet Your Instructor

Stephen McNair


Stephen has over 38 years in the energy industry, having held leadership, operations, commercial, and engineering positions primarily in the natural gas and water midstream space. He spent the first 14 years of his career gaining valuable experience working for ConocoPhillips. In the ensuing years, he progressed to leadership positions at several gas mid-stream companies, including DCP, Enlink, H2O Midstream, and Enterprise. He has also held positions with Pioneer Natural Resources (Upstream) and a renewable energy start-up involved with CCS and biomass – Fidelis New Energy

Stephen holds an M.B.A. from Oklahoma City University and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University. He has served on the boards of NMOGA, COGA, and engineering advisory boards at Texas A&M and UT Permian Basin.
