Simon Slater

Simon Slater is a Principal Integrity Engineer working for ROSEN Integrity Services, based in Columbus, Ohio. Simon is a Materials & Welding Engineer providing technical consultancy associated with structural integrity assessments, pipe material properties, and welding engineering. He has been working for ROSEN Integrity Services for 8 years. The majority of his time is focused on supporting the ROSEN UTCD and EMAT crack detection framework and the RoMat PGS pipeline material verification framework. Prior to joining ROSEN, he worked in the steel industry for 12 years, seven years of which were in pipe manufacturing and 5 years in research and development. His areas of expertise include metallurgy, welding of pipeline materials, laboratory materials testing, engineering critical assessment, and structural integrity.

Bruce Nestleroth

Bruce Nestleroth has been focused on pipeline inspection applications most of his career, starting at Battelle in 1986 and now at Kiefner for the last 7 years.  In the 1990s, he worked to demonstrate the fundamental principles of magnetic flux leakage (MFL) and other in-line inspection (ILI) technologies at Battelle’s Pipeline Facility.  He then advanced magnetic and ultrasonic sensors for in-line inspection technology for the detection and assessment of mechanical damage and cracking.  His current professional goal is to understand the capabilities and limitations of ILI technology on difficult to characterize pipeline defects and to apply that knowledge to help operators improve pipeline reliability and ILI vendors improve their tools.   Bruce has developed and regularly conducts training courses and workshops on pipeline inspection technology.  He also is a member of the API committees that develop the standards on pipeline inspection and cracking.

McKenzie Kissel

McKenzie Kissel is currently the TriStream MFLTM Product Line Manager at Onstream Pipeline.  McKenzie is a professional engineer with an MBA. He graduated with his B.Sc in mechanical engineering from the University of Alberta and his MBA from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary.  McKenzie has over 10 years of experience in In-line Inspection research and technology development.  He started in R&D mechanical design, followed by leading multi-disciplinary teams across the world as a technical project manager, and prior to accepting his current position, he held the role of system engineer responsible for technical aspects on multiple MFL based products.

Michael Rosenfeld

Michael Rosenfeld is an experienced consultant in pipeline fitness for service, pipeline integrity, pipeline design and construction, causes of pipeline failures, pipeline regulations and standards, and related matters. He has performed numerous pipeline failure investigations and root cause failure analyses; research funded by the pipeline industry on the effects of mechanical damage, fatigue, pipeline integrity threat interactions, and methods to determine the probable grade of undocumented pipe materials; engineering analyses of a broad range of design, operations, or integrity matters for numerous pipeline operators; and provided expert support in litigation. He chairs the Subgroup on Design, Materials, and Construction of the ASME B31.8 Gas Transmission and Distribution Piping Committee and serves on other ASME piping standards development committees. Mr. Rosenfeld has authored or co-authored over 90 published articles or public presentations dating to 1988, is an ASME Fellow and is a Professional Engineer registered in the State of Ohio. He previously worked with Kiefner & Associates (27 years), Battelle (6 years), and Impell Corporation (4 years). He earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Michigan (1979) and a Master of Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University (1981).

Matthew Ellinger

Matthew Ellinger is a Senior Engineer and Group Lead in the Integrity Solutions section within the Pipeline Services department at the DNV USA, Inc. office in Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Ellinger joined DNV GL in 2006 after obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree from the Ohio State University in Mechanical Engineering.

Since joining DNV, Mr. Ellinger has gained valuable experience in a wide range of pipeline Integrity Management aspects, including, but not limited to, in-line inspection (ILI) analysis, burst pressure and remaining life calculations, pressure cycle fatigue (PCF) analysis, stress corrosion cracking (SCC) assessments, pipeline risk assessments, Integrity Management Program (IMP) development and implementation, corrosion growth assessments (CGA), procedure development, re-inspection interval assessments, fitness for service (FFS) evaluations, and hydrostatic pressure test evaluations.

Throughout his time at DNV, Mr. Ellinger has obtained significant project management experience. Mr. Ellinger is well versed in budget development and tracking, the scope of work development, resource allocation, client interfacing, and technical written and oral report delivery as a result of his project management experience.

Mr. Ellinger has spent a significant amount of time providing on-site technical support to onshore pipeline operators and their integrity efforts. A major focal point of these efforts has been assisting clients throughout the entire lifecycle of an ILI project. This includes ILI vendor and tool technology selection, coordinating inspection logistics, integrating historic field data with ILI data for QA/QC purposes, performing ILI run-to-run comparisons, developing field follow-up scopes of work in response to ILI data (site selection and prioritization, repair selection, etc.), notifying stakeholders of ILI findings, and preparing ILI project closeout reports. Mr. Ellinger has published and presented five papers related to ILI.
