This class provides a basic regulatory understanding of the environmental regulations that directly affect the natural gas industry.
The natural gas industry includes a wide range of operations, facilities, and equipment from exploration and production wells to natural gas gathering lines and processing facilities to compression stations and storage facilities to transmission and distribution pipelines. Consequently, there are a wide range of different environmental laws, regulations and programs that apply to these various components of the natural gas industry. This class is intended to provide a basic overview and understanding of the regulatory universe, as well as different regulatory programs applicable to the natural gas industry.
The class includes a copy of the Layman’s Guide to Environmental Regulations in the Natural Gas Industry.
Attendees will receive 2 Professional Development Hours (PDH) upon completion.

Melvin M. Stroble, Sr.

Melvin Stroble brings 40 years of environmental compliance expertise to the “Introduction to Environmental Regulations in the Natural Gas Industry with Environmental Layman’s Guide” course. As a Registered Environmental Professional (NREP) and Director of Power Services at EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc., PBC (EA), Mr. Stroble translates complex regulatory frameworks into practical guidance based on his experience as an Environmental Program Manager for a natural gas transmission company and Senior Environmental Specialist for a mixed utility.
With comprehensive knowledge of the Natural Gas Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, and Oil Pollution Act, Mr. Stroble provides students with current regulatory insights and industry best practices. His educational background includes degrees from the University of South Carolina (1986) and Kansas University’s Project Management Program (2015), complementing his hands-on industry experience.
At EA, Mr. Stroble oversees energy sector strategies and initiatives spanning natural gas pipelines, LNG terminals, electric generation, transmission, and renewable energy. His project portfolio includes feasibility studies, routing and siting analyses, and environmental permits and clearances, allowing him to incorporate real-world case studies into his teaching materials.
Mr. Stroble’s involvement in professional organizations, including SGA Natural Gas Association, ensures course content reflects current industry trends. His experience developing employee training programs enables him to effectively teach students how to navigate regulatory requirements while providing practical applications valuable across all experience levels.
