Chair Message

A new year, a new decade and it’s never been a more exciting and challenging time to be part of the natural gas industry! Since 1990, natural gas utilities have added more than 760,000 miles of distribution mains and services to serve more than 70 million customers. This increased natural gas consumption has generated a truly incredible story for the environment as U.S. greenhouse gas emissions have fallen to their lowest levels since 1992. In addition, methane emissions from onshore U.S. oil and natural gas production fell 24 percent, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Air quality is not the only thing getting attention these days. 2020 will be a big year for regulations as we eagerly await the release of the revised Clean Water Act and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). These proposed rule revisions will streamline, clarify and modernize the permitting and environmental review process to help reduce delays as well as help facilitate the environmentally responsible construction of natural gas infrastructure projects throughout the United States.

At SGA’s Technical Conference on Environmental Permitting and Construction in Savannah, GA, we will discover how the natural gas industry is meeting the challenges of complying with environmental regulations, reaching enterprise-wide sustainability goals and reaching energy management targets.

“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” —Jane Goodall

Can’t wait to see you there!
