The preserve's 4,100 acres are in a beautiful setting within sight of downtown Austin, and it harbors rare species including the endangered Golden-cheeked Warbler and Black-capped Vireo. With the assistance of neighboring landowners, it also preserves the quality of water in the Barton Creek watershed. At one time slated for home site development, today Barton Creek Habitat Preserve makes up just one part of the Balcones Canyonlands Conservation Plan, one of the first multi-species regional habitat conservation plans in the country. The cost for the tour is $10 a person with all proceeds given as a donation to The Nature Conservancy of Texas. This field trip is open to all conference participants! Driving directions to the preserve will be provided to registrants prior to the conference.
