Event Overview

This presentation outlines best practices for routing studies for pipeline projects. It covers defining project boundaries, building geodatabases, evaluating risks, permitting, stakeholder engagement, and cost estimating. Emphasis is placed on collaboration and integrating stakeholders such as operations, engineering, environmental specialists, and right-of-way throughout the project lifecycle. Tools and processes for decision-making, field reviews, and delivery planning are highlighted to ensure efficient, compliant, and community-conscious project execution.

Attendees will receive 1.25 Professional Development Hours (PDH) upon completion.

Meet the Instructor

Chad Jacobs

Northeast Oil & Gas Lead, HDR


With over 20 years of oil and gas industry experience, Chad is HDR’s Northeast Oil and Gas Region Lead and an experienced project manager who has worked on many oil and gas pipeline projects across the country. He has been involved in FERC linear projects, permitting for oil and gas projects, trenchless pipeline installations, and served as technical lead and owner’s engineer on civil, environmental, and construction projects from concept to closeout. In addition, he is skilled at identifying and delineating routing, design, and construction risk pertaining to oil and gas pipelines and their associated facilities.

Chad is a professional engineer in six states, and he has earned his Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) Envision Sustainability Professional designation.
