Practical Inline Inspection

Virtual Workshop

Event Overview

This workshop provides operations and maintenance engineers, and field technicians in pipeline companies with the knowledge to establish and manage an intelligent pigging program that contributes optimum value toward improved pipeline integrity.

Attendees will receive 15 Professional Development Hours upon completion

Learning Objectives:

Learn the basics of in-line inspection (pigging), including

  • operation considerations including launching, tracking and receiving,
  • pipeline cleaning for better ILI results,
  • the technology behind deformation, mapping, corrosion and crack detection ILI tools, and
  • an introduction to viewing and verifying ILIL results.

Who Should Attend

Operations and maintenance engineers and technicians who participate in in-line inspections using intelligent pigs.

Meet the Instructors:

Bruce Nestleroth

Bruce Nestleroth has been focused on pipeline inspection applications for most of his career, working at Battelle and Kiefner. In the 1990s, he worked to demonstrate the fundamental principles of magnetic flux leakage (MFL) and other in-line inspection (ILI) technologies at Battelle’s Pipeline Facility.  He then advanced magnetic and ultrasonic sensors for in-line inspection technology for the detection and assessment of mechanical damage and cracking.  His current professional goal is to understand the capabilities and limitations of ILI technology on difficult to characterize pipeline defects, and to apply that knowledge to help operators improve pipeline reliability and ILI vendors improve their tools.   Bruce has developed and regularly conducts training courses and workshops on pipeline inspection technology.  He also is a member of the API committees that develop the standards on pipeline inspection and cracking.
