Event Summary
This class will cover the key functions inside a natural gas marketing firm, including trading, origination, risk management, scheduling, and regulatory compliance. You’ll learn how these functions work together to ensure smooth and profitable operations. For example, traders buy and sell natural gas based on market trends, while originators secure supply contracts and manage relationships with clients. Risk management monitors and mitigates financial risks, and schedulers ensure the physical delivery of gas. Additionally, the class will explore the daily activities of professionals like traders, originators, and schedulers, offering insights into how they contribute to the firm’s success.
Attendees will receive 2 Professional Development Hours (PDH) upon completion.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the basics of natural gas marketing
- Become familiar with deal types and how/why they are structured as they are
- Understand the “behind the scenes” work at a marketing firm
Who Should Attend
This class is a broad-brush review of how a gas marketing firm works, not a detailed examination of any one particular aspect of gas marketing. While we’ll cover some aspects of jobs in the firm, this won’t be “Trading 101” or “Risk Management 101.” This class will be useful to anyone who has considered (or is considering) a career in energy marketing and also to anyone who has wondered, “What goes in a trading/marketing company?” It will be useful for anyone who deals with gas marketers, both wholesale producers and consumers.
