Maximizing Controller Attention to Detail on Long Shifts

Event Summary

This session will touch on both the physical setup of the Control Room and the human factors aspects of managing long-shift mental and physical fatigue in Controllers. ISltd instructors will provide tips and tricks for setting up and maintaining a Control Room environment that mitigates fatigue-related risks and minimizes distractions and complacency, thus maximizing the safety of the pipeline systems and plant systems being monitored and controlled. The instructors encourage open discussion for any struggles or questions participants may have.

Attendees will receive 1 Professional Development Hour (PDH) upon completion.

Course Objectives

  • Identify simple solutions for fatigue mitigative strategies
  • Learn ways to make modifications to existing Control Rooms to enhance efficiency
  • Discuss design techniques for new or existing Control Room that encourage Controller focus
  • Learn ways to streamline administrative activities to allow Controller’s to focus on critical operational tasks

Vickie has over 25 years of experience in pipeline control, regulatory support, scheduling, and operations across the natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) sectors, with expertise in control room management (CRM), operator qualification (OQ), federal and state regulations, process audits, and scheduling. She is also an expert in 49 CFR 199 and 49 CFR 40 drug and alcohol (D&A) compliance.

Trish has over 25 years of experience in the Oil and Gas industry, working with operators across the United States and internationally. With deep expertise in regulatory compliance and operational assessments, she specializes in a wide range of services including program assessments (both onsite and offsite), mock audits, effectiveness evaluations, audit preparation and support, and accident/incident response.

Through her company, Trish provides customized training and consulting services focused on key industry programs such as Design and Construction, Control Room Management, Integrity Management, Operator Qualification, and Emergency Response. Her work also covers areas like Leak Detection, Damage Prevention, Corrosion Control, Public Awareness, Health and Safety, Coast Guard compliance, Oil Spill Response Planning, and environmental programs such as the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and Wastewater Treatment.
