Workshop Summary

This 3-day workshop takes you through the issues and concerns related to pipeline hot tapping and stopping as well as HDD design. The workshop is built around activities that re-enforce the concepts discussed, all tied to real-life scenarios. Specific topics covered include tapping and stopping process review, in-service welding and field considerations for the tapping and stopping portion. In the HDD design portion, topics will consist of site layout requirements, stress calculations and geotechnical issues.

During this workshop, we plan to:

  • Highlight branch connections and re-enforcement of tapped openings
  • Pay special attention to safe work procedures
  • Build the HDD vocabulary and understanding to aid in better conversations with industry experts
  • Discuss current limitations of the trenchless construction industry
  • Apply all the concepts discussed to case studies

 

Attendees will qualify for 22 Professional Development Hours (PDH) and a Level 3 Natural Gas Industry Inline Inspection Expert badge from Credly upon completion.

SGA has partnered with Credly, the leader in digital credentials, to certify the recipients have a dynamic understanding of establishing and managing an inline inspection program that contributes optimum value toward improved pipeline integrity. They have a working knowledge of the following: principles of design and operation of key systems of an intelligent pig, attributes of data analysis processes, prioritizing for inspection, repair and replacement assessments, inspection efficiency and speed control of pigs.

Criteria

Level 3 Natural Gas Industry Inline Inspection Experts with this credential must have completed the prerequisite of Southern Gas Association’s Practical Inline Inspection course in addition to Advanced Inline Inspection. Additionally, they must be currently employed and have professional, technical or field exposure that is directly attributed to the natural gas industry.

Rob has over 30 years of experience in the natural gas transmission and distribution pipeline industry. His tenure includes consulting engineering and operating company positions in both Canada and the U.S. Throughout his career, Rob has fulfilled roles in design engineering, project management, operations support and management.
