Following World War II, improvements in pipe-making techniques led to the construction of more natural gas pipelines. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, thousands of miles of pipelines were constructed throughout the United States. This expanded the use of natural gas to homes for heating and cooking, manufacturing and processing plants, and boilers to generate electricity.
