A new committee is forming to strengthen reliability, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing across the natural gas value chain.
When temperatures drop or demand spikes, the industry relies on peak shaving to keep systems stable and communities served. Those moments depend on preparation, coordination, and shared expertise across the natural gas value chain.
To continue building that foundation, the SGA Natural Gas Association is launching a new Peak Shaving Committee, approved by the Board of Directors on November 2, 2025.
This committee will bring together operators and industry partners to:
- Exchange insights that strengthen operational decision-making.
 - Share best practices across LNG, LPG-air, and high-deliverability underground storage facilities.
 - Align on regulatory issues that affect system reliability and market stability.

These assets play a critical role in maintaining reliability during high-demand periods or supply disruptions.
Share • We Can Strengthen Reliability together.
SGA is convening members who understand the importance of connection during critical system moments.
This committee provides a place to share experiences, learn from one another, and strengthen the collective readiness of our industry.
Grow • Shared Insights Can Move Our Industry Forward.
The committee’s initial deliverables for 2026–2027 include:
- A Peak Shaving Best Practices Compendium summarizing operational and regulatory insights.
 - Annual workshops and webinars integrated into SGA’s Learning Flywheel.
 - Regulatory comment summaries that support alignment on upcoming LNG and LPG rulemakings.

Each initiative helps members build knowledge and apply lessons that benefit the entire network.
Advance • Leading with Resilience Will Inspire Progress.
Jacob Abraham (Williams) will serve as Chair of the inaugural committee, bringing deep operational expertise and a proven record of cross-industry collaboration.
His leadership reflects the innovation and partnership that define SGA.
The committee officially launches on January 1, 2026, under the Innovative Opportunities Section.
