SAFETY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
This award provides recognition to member companies or employee groups
within the companies for an outstanding achievement in the prevention
of work related injuries and illnesses.
Any SGA member company, division, department or single location, or group
of employees is eligible, regardless of the number of persons employed
in that specific place. The group must be a clearly defined operation
under single supervision, and it must be considered as a whole. These
groups become eligible for an award upon completion of the required umber
of consecutive work hours or consecutive years worked without having experienced
a disqualifying case.
A disqualifying case is either: (1) death; or (2) lost workday case with
days away from work.
For uniform record keeping of occupational injuries and illnesses, the
Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 and Part 1904 of Title 29,
Code of Federal Regulation will be followed.
Consecutive Work Hours Worked
Work-hours of exposure are the total number of hours worked by all employees,
including supervisors, in a specific group. This figure shall be derived
from payroll records. If such records are not available, work-hours may
be estimated by using the actual number of employees and the average number
of hours worked by the employees during the period of application.
Safety Achievement Awards are available in several categories
1,000,000 (or more) consecutive work-hours in increments of:
100,000; 250,000; 500,000; 750,000
Groups that do not obtain 100,000 work-hours within a period of 5 years
or more shall be given an award for consecutive years worked without a
disqualifying case. These will be given in increments of 5 years.
MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY AWARD
This award recognizes member companies or employee groups that have achieved
outstanding merit in the prevention of motor vehicle accidents. The award
is governed by recordable motor vehicle accidents as determined by the
American National Standards Institute (ANSI) D15.1 "Method of Recording
and Measuring Motor Vehicle Accident Experience."
Any SGA member company, division, department, single location or group
of employees is eligible regardless of the number of persons employed
in that location. The group must be a clearly defined operation under
single supervision and must be considered as a whole.
Eligibility becomes available at 500,000 miles or a minimum of 5 year
increments.
Mileage Increments / Yearly Increments
500,000 / 5 years
1,000,000 / 10 years
2,000,000 / 15 years
3,000,000 / 20 years
And so on
Any motor vehicle accident which is determined recordable by the American
National Standards Institute (ANSI) D15.1 will disqualify the unit as
of the date of the accident. A motor vehicle accident is any occurrence
involving a motor vehicle which results in death, injury or property damage,
unless such vehicle is properly parked.
Once an accident is recorded, the unit must begin, from the date of the
accident, re-calculating miles or years of accident free driving.
