This important workshop provides a basic regulatory summary of the environmental regulations that directly affect the natural gas industry. This workshop is based on the SGA's popular training guide, "A Layman's Guide to Environmental Regulations". Topics to be covered in the workshop are

Instructors

Dr. Chae Laird, Senior Regional Program Manager at ENSR Corporation

Chae has a BA in General Biology from Vanderbilt University and an MA and PhD in Marine Science from the College of William and Mary.  Chae has over 28 years of environmental experience in the energy industry.  Prior to joining ENSR, he was Director of Environmental Affairs for Southern Natural Gas Company for more than 18 years.  During that time, he was also a member of the Environmental Project Advisors Group of the Gas Research Institute and the environmental committees of INGAA, SGA (Chair) and AGA (Chair).  Chae has authored or co-authored innumerable scientific papers, technical reports, and technical presentations related to oceanography, environmental contaminants, environmental management, and the oil and gas industry.

Melvin M. Stroble , Senior Consultant at Natural Resource Group

Melvin has a BS in biology from the University of South Carolina over 20 years experience working in regulatory compliance, permitting, and inspection of Natural Gas Pipeline facilities.  Prior to joining NRG, Melvin, a former Environmental Program Manager, had environmental experience including matters related to electric generating facilities (fossil-fired, hydro and nuclear) and transmission lines.  He has also served on the SGA Environmental Committee, where he served as a technical expert on panels and made presentations relating to his broad environmental experience.  His professional certifications include REM (Registered Environmental Manager), PHR (Professional in Human Resources), Licensed Asbestos Inspector and Supervisor, Certified Erosion Control and Sediment Prevention Inspector, Certified Team Development Instructor, and Total Quality Management Instructor.

 

Who Should Attend

This workshop is designed for industry employees who are unfamiliar with the environmental regulations, compressor station and operations personnel, accountants, administrative assistants, lawyers, new consultants, and any others who would benefit from a broad overview of environmental regulations.

 

Schedule

The workshop begins at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, and ends at noon on Thursday, May 8.  All sessions will be held at the Holiday Inn Riverwalk.

Professional Development Hours
