Introduction for Aerial Coalition Technologies - Presentation (10:30 to 11:30)
This collaborative presentation is designed to showcase the state-of-the-art utility patrol services offered by Aerial Coalition Technologies, which utilizes FLIR’s new Ultra 8000e fugitive emissions detection system and the Red Hen Systems’ digital geospatial video management sDVR.
Presenters:
- Gary Luebs – Owner and Chief Pilot, Aerial Coalition Technologies, LLC
- Hoot Gibson – Marketing Manager for Red Hen Systems, Inc.
- Ed Jones and Gary Lux – Managers for FLIR Systems, Inc.
- Mike Ruchti, professional helicopter pilot, who has 28 years experience performing ROW patrol/protection w/Columbia Gas Transmission.
Aerial Coalition Technologies is utilizing several new technologies to offer the utility industry a ROW patrol program designed to dramatically enhance pipeline integrity management:
- Aerial Coalition Technologies is a long time provider of helicopter services in the United States. Their Bell Jet Rangers provide the platform for careful and deliberate observation of the utility operators’ ROW, by experienced pilots and dedicated observers.
- FLIR Systems Ultra 8000e Airborne Environmental Imaging and Fugitive Emission Detection System enables the simultaneous capture of color visual imagery and thermal imagery leakage detection.
- Red Hen Systems’ sDVR allows the recording and management of digital geospatial video on removable hard drives. All video is GPS/date/time stamped for location purposes, ease of documentation, and quick referencing.
When combined, these technologies offer many benefits to the end user:
- The patrol program provides an easy-to-watch video of all patrolled ROW, which allows the pipeline operator to view his/her remote assets from the office. This will help promote effective reactions to encroachments, activities near facilities, and geologic events.
- The video can be shared between multiple business units to globally address issues involving canopy, clearing, house counts, changes in location class, the condition of water crossings, and the general condition of above ground appurtenances.
- The option to pull still photos from the video, query the video for selected attributes, and to look at previous patrols, are just a few of the added benefits of the program.
- The thermal imagery leakage detection is a valuable tool for annual leakage patrol, High Consequence Area patrols, and on-demand response for support of operations personnel responding to a pressure problem on a particular ipeline.
- The data produced by the patrol program can be downloaded to the pipeline operators’ IT system or to the secure Red Hen Server where it can be accessed and queried at anytime with the proper login and password.
The end result for the pipeline operator is a second-to-none patrol program, offering benefits reaching far beyond the capabilities of traditional programs.
