About this Meeting

This workshop is conducted annually (May 2007-Galveston; March 2008-Nashville). Plans are moving forward with scheduling this workshop as a noon to noon type meeting, immediately preceding the Managing Natural Gas Emergencies Workshop. This would allow participants to attend either, or both workshops.

    • SoCal's experience with two earthquakes (statistics & issues), response structure based on their experiences and the earthquake based issues that utilities should plan for in advance.

1:00 - 2:00 p.m.          Value of Creating Public-Private Partnerships for Joint Crisis Management

The Critical Incident Protocol (CIP) - Community Facilitation Program is offered for free to cities, counties, and regions across the nation where Michigan State University will facilitate 2 to 4 workshops over a period of 6 to 12 months.  To date, they have initiated the CIP Program with 34 communities, in 21 states, and with over 2,600 participants.  They are funded through a grant awarded to MSU by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and are looking to work with more communities around the nation.

2:15 - 3:45 p.m.             Disaster Table Top Exercise

Attendees will participate in a natural disaster related table top exercise facilitated by Nixon & Associates.  The exercise will incorporate a realistic scenario such as a hurricane impacting a coastal area to stimulate thought and discussion related to disaster planning and response.  Participants will have the opportunity to share best practices and learn from other attendees to enhance their respective disaster management programs.

4:00 - 5:00 p.m.          Tornado Damage - Hartsville Compressor Station

On February 5, 2008, tornados damaged this Columbia Gas Transmission compressor station, located approximately 40 miles North of Nashville. This session will focus on leassons learned from that disaster.
